Edit Dawsholm Park
The area that now forms the park was purchased by Glasgow Corporation in 1922 from Sir Archibald Campbell of Succoth and was originally part of Sir Archibalds Garscube Estate.
Situated 5 miles North West of the city centre in the Kelvindale Ward, the park is also handy for residents of nearby Maryhill, Anniesland and Hillhead.
Open at all times, the park is a haven for wildlife lovers, walkers and joggers and contains an abundance of paths within the grounds. The River Kelvin runs along the northern boundary and provides a beautiful backdrop to the thickly wooded areas. These woodland areas contain trees such as pine, sycamore, beech, cherry, larch, yew and oak. In season the display of Rhododendron is quite spectacular and of course the autumn provides an ever-changing feast of colour and mood.
Grey squirrel are common and the Red fox can also be encountered as they suddenly run across your path.
The Kelvindale railway station is only five minutes walk from one of the entrances to the park, which makes it easily accessible from the city centre.
As a photographer/artist living in Kelvindale I just love this park and the following images are my impressions of this beautiful place.

The park is looking fantastic these days. A real treasure in Maryhill.
And don't forget the Highland Cows.
Thank you for those comments Gordon - if anyone has any other images they wish to share then just "bring them on" as they say. It would be nice to know if there were ever any vintage postcards of this park.
I went through the park a few days ago and the difference they have made since clearing a lot of the rhodedendrons out has really opened it up, it looks great.
